Purdue University has been put on two years probation for minor and major violations made by the women’s basketball program, the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions announed today.
In addition to probation, the NCAA declared that the women’s basketball team will lose two scholarships and that former assistant coach Katrina Merriweather will face a three-year show-cause penalty.
In February 2006, Purdue officials suspended guard Cherelle George and Merriweather for possible NCAA violations. Almost two months later, George was declared permanently ineligible and Merriweather resigned. An internal investigation by Purdue found six possible violations.
